Getting ready to visit Amsterdam? This 5-day plan takes all kinds of travelers through the city’s charm, from historic places to hidden gems. Amsterdam has something for everyone, whether you’re interested in history, art, or just a unique European adventure.
Here’s my top things to do in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 5 days:
5 Day Itinerary
Day 1:
- Walk through the flower market
- Take photos in front of the canals
- Explore Rembrandt Circle
- Enjoy some delicious frites (I went to House of Fries)
- Walk around the city
Day 2:
- Visit the Van Gogh Museum
- Rent a bike to explore more of Amsterdam
- Go on a cheese tasting (every cheese store has them)
- Walk through the Red Light District
Day 3:
- Visit the Rijksmuseum
- See the artists and sculptures in Museum Square
- Take a canal tour
- Visit Anne Frank House (make sure you book well in advance)
Day 4:
- Take a day trip to Zaans Schans and explore windmills and Dutch traditions (full post on that here)
- Come back to Amsterdam for dinner
- Finish the night at Door 74, a speakeasy bar which requires reservations
Day 5:
- Go to breakfast at Pancakes Amsterdam
- Visit the MOCO Museum
- Get a gluten-free burger at McDonald’s
- Bike through Vondelpark and stop at one of the restaurants
- Enjoy a Stroopwafel (gluten-free ones can be found at the grocery store)
I did not do the Heineken Experience since I couldn’t drink beer and I didn’t have time for the Foodhallen.
